What is the Central Iowa MotoRacing Club?

The Central Iowa MotoRacing Club is an organization dedicated to having as much fun as possible racing motorcycles. If you're looking to sharpen your riding skills in a safe environment where you don't have to worry about getting pushed off the track by somebody fighting for position, then this club is for you. Our group emphasizes fun and safety above all else. You won't find a better group of people to spend a day racing with!

We have all ages ranging from under 7 to 50+. You're never too young or old to start racing with our group. It also doesn't matter how big or small you may be. We have 5'2" 110 pound jockeys all the way up to 6'+, over 200 pound giants. All skill levels are present and you will always have somebody with similar skills to race against. And everyone is willing to give advice and help out the new riders!

What type of motorcycles are allowed? Basically, anything that will run well on a .7 mile go-cart track. This includes motards, small road race bikes (Honda RS125, Aprilia RS series, Derbi's, etc), Yamaha YSRs, Scooters, and we welcome Pocketbike riders!  Our home track is located in Marshalltown, IA (about 45 minutes NE of Des Moines), one of the few tracks in this area!

What do I need to get started Racing?

Motorcycle: Bring any type of two wheeled vehicle that will run well on our .7 mile track. This includes Motards, Aprilia RS50's, Derbi GPR's, Honda RS80/125's, Yamaha YSRs, Yamaha TTRs, pocket bikes, or any other small displacement motorcycles. You will want to make sure that your motorcycle doesn't leak fluids and has good tires & brakes. Since the track is so tight, our maximum streetbike displacement is 500cc 2-cylinder. The track is pretty tight but we do have two 400' straights connected by a high speed corner that allows some pretty good speed! Don't let the small size of the track fool you. We still have BIG fun and some very close racing!

Gear: Helmet, leather jacket, knee protection, and gloves are mandatory. Full leathers or motocross gear are preferred but if you don't have them, don't worry. You will probably be able to borrow somebody's leathers if you aren't sure about full time racing. Once you decide you like it (and you will!) then you can run out and get a full set of leathers.

Desire to have fun!: Nothing beats the thrill of getting out on a track and off the streets. Go as fast as you want without worrying about tickets or cars! Not only will you have fun, you will learn how to better control a motorcycle. Racing WILL make you a better street rider! If you aren't sure that racing is for you, at least come out and watch us some weekend. We are always happy to talk to those who are interested and give some pointers on how to get started.

What can I expect on Race/Track Days at Marshalltown?

It will cost you $30 on track-days and $42 on race days (includes transponder rental). Where else can you get a full day of track time for $30?!?. The gates open at 9:00 AM and close at dark. Once inside the gates, just pit wherever you like. You can take the track anytime (depending on the number of riders) after signing in at the office. We run a VERY informal program and emphasize fun and safety. If you have questions, just ask and we'll point you in the right direction.
